On a crisp autumn afternoon, Milnerton High School proved too strong for a spirited Parel Vallei side, clinching a 20–7 win in a physical and entertaining schoolboy rugby clash on Saturday.
From the first whistle, it was clear this wouldn’t be an easy outing for either team. Milnerton came out with intent, applying early pressure and dominating the breakdowns. Their forwards laid the foundation for a structured, disciplined performance that ultimately earned them the edge.
Parel Vallei, however, was not short on heart. Despite going behind on the scoreboard, they showed plenty of fight, especially on defense, and made Milnerton work for every meter. The visitors responded with some strong carries and hard tackles that had the crowd on their feet.
Milnerton’s consistency proved decisive. Two well-worked tries, one in each half, along with accurate place-kicking, saw them build a lead that Parel Vallei struggled to close. A late try from the Somerset West-based team gave their supporters something to cheer about and ensured the game ended on a competitive note.
First Half: Milnerton capitalized on Parel Vallei handling errors to score a converted try and a penalty, leading 10–0 at the break.
Second Half: A clinical finish by Milnerton’s backline extended their lead to 20–0 before Parel Vallei crossed the whitewash late in the game to avoid a shutout.
While the result went Milnerton’s way, there were positives for Parel Vallei. Their defensive structure held up for large parts of the match, and their set-piece showed promise. With more polish and composure, this young team will be one to watch as the season progresses.
